A 16-year-old girl survived surgery but was in critical condition Sunday morning after someone shot her in the back during a Henry County block party with more than 200 teenagers, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Police told Channel 2 they were actively seeking a person of interest Sunday, after the shooting left about 70 shell casings outside a Stockbridge apartment complex and at least five bullet holes in a car.

“They just started firing everywhere,” witness Charles Noble Jr. told the television station. “I hit the floor, my wife hit the floor scared out of her wits.”

The shooting took place at about 11:30 p.m., during a block party behind a strip of shops off North Henry Boulevard and at the entrance to Olivia Place apartments. The attack started with an argument that escalated to a shooting.

Three party-goers were arrested, but not in direct connection with the shooting of the 16-year-old, according to Channel 2. Two of those arrested were allegedly firing shots in the air.

Police have not said if they think the girl, whose name has not been released, was an intended target nor have they speculated on what the argument was about.

Investigators did get a description of a vehicle seen leaving the scene, which police spotted later and pulled over.

Two men inside were detained and questioned.
