Suspects denied bond in armed nail supply store robbery near police station

A two-mile chase ensued before the capture.

A judged denied bond Friday for a teenager and a man accused in an armed robbery at a nail supply store located across the street from the Morrow police station.

Kevin Hinds, 20, and Rodrick Holt, 17, face armed robbery, aggravated assault, obstruction of an officer and burglary charges in the short-lived Thursday morning heist, according to Clayton County jail records.

Officers had just got out of a training class and were in the middle of a shift change when a call came in about an armed robbery at the store located at 1612 Lake Harbin Road.

Authorities flooded the area as Holt and Hinds turned off Lake Harbin Road and onto Heritage Chase, according to officials.

The duo drove behind a home at a high rate of speed but couldn’t stop, police said. The car slid through grass and went down a 50-foot embankment.

Hinds was immediately arrested while Holt ran, losing a shoe, police said.

Clayton County police and the sheriff’s office joined in the search and eventually took the second suspect in custody.

In court Friday, Clayton County Magistrate Judge Sonyja George said the men stole $3,00 from employees and took a rose gold iPhone 7 and $800 from a customer, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Hinds and Holt have a preliminary hearing and a bond hearing scheduled for Sept. 6 and Sept. 7, respectively.
