The man accused of killing the brother of a McDonough city councilwoman turned himself in Saturday, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Online records showed Julian Keyon Redding, 31, was booked into the Henry County jail at 12:40 p.m. and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime. No bond amount was listed.
Redding is accused of shooting 26-year-old Prince Varner — the brother of McDonough Councilwoman Kamali Varner — inside the Red Zone Sports Bar and Grill on Oct. 24. According to Channel 2, McDonough police believe Varner and Redding got into an argument inside the bar.
Both men left, but Redding allegedly retrieved a gun and followed Varner back into the bar, shooting him multiple times, police said. Authorities told Channel 2 that Varner and Redding had known each other for years, and that the shooting may have been the product of an earlier confrontation about “damaged property.”
“It just hurts so bad to know he’s not going to pick up the phone and call me,” Kamali Varner previously told Channel 2.
