The former officer charged in connection with the deaths of two police dogs has been ordered to stay away from animals, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Daniel Peabody, 50, made his first court appearance Thursday, Channel 2 reported. The Cherokee County magistrate court judge imposed the sanctions.
Cherokee marshal’s officials said that Peabody, who resigned from the Cherokee County schools force last week, left one police dog in his car for hours, causing heatstroke. Also, officials say evidence indicates that Peabody shot and killed a police dog in his care in 2012.
Peabody faces charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and making a false statement to investigators.
