An admitted member of the “sovereign citizens” group that authorities claim used bogus paperwork to steal houses across metro Atlanta pleaded guilty Thursday to racketeering.

Corey Bernard Freeman was sentenced by DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Courtney Johnson after prosecutors agreed to allow Freeman to get out of jail for time served plus three years of supervised probation, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Freeman, who has been in jail since July, 2010, was one of 12 people indicted by a DeKalb grand jury in connection with the thefts of 18 properties in eight counties.

Several of those indicted have already pleaded guilty, and Freeman agreed to testify against four remaining co-defendants.

“My client recognizes that what he did was in violation of the law and wants to plead guilty, wants to move on with his life,” Freeman’s attorney, Andre Johnson, said at Thursday’s sentencing.
