A Fulton County jury deliberated for just one hour Wednesday before finding an Atlanta man guilty in the shooting death of his elderly father.

Daniel Taylor, 26, was sentenced to life in prison plus five years for killing 83-year-old Richard Taylor on May 12, 2011 as he slept. The defendant’s mother told Atlanta police she awoke to find her son standing over her husband, who was shot in the chest at close range.

Daniel Taylor, whose motive remains unclear, denied being the shooter, though, according to prosecutors, he led police to the murder weapon hidden inside the family’s Austin Road home.

Taylor was found guilty on all counts: murder, felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
