A 17-year-old found dead in southeast Atlanta may have accidentally shot himself in the upper torso, police said after their preliminary investigation.
The incident happened just before 10:15 p.m. Sunday at a house in the 1800 block of Charleston Avenue.
“The preliminary investigation indicates this incident to be consistent with a negligent, self-inflicted (gunshot wound) resulting in death,” Atlanta police Officer Kim Jones said. “The final cause and manner of death are pending autopsy.”
The injured teen was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
When officers arrived on the scene, they questioned a witness in the area.
“The witnesses had remained on scene, cooperated with the investigation, and provided statements,” Jones said.
