Second man convicted, given life sentence for North Georgia murder

A 39-year-old Walton County man was the second man to be sentenced to life in prison for murdering a man in 2014, authorities said.
Mario Romoan Sullivan was convicted of killing Quintaurus "Goat" Brooks on Dec. 21, 2014, the Walton County District Attorney's Office said in a Facebook post. Over 20 witnesses testified at the trial and the jury deliberated for less than an hour before finding him guilty Friday.

In August 2018, Ellis Meon Smith Jr., born in 1989, pleaded guilty to participating in the murder, and he was found guilty of felony murder, attempted armed robbery, first-degree home invasion and other firearm-related charges, the post said.
He was sentenced to life in prison, and he remains at Smith State Prison, according to Georgia Department of Corrections records.

Sullivan was sentenced to life in prison plus 60 years after he was convicted of malice murder, felony murder, attempted armed robbery, first-degree home invasion, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a felon during a crime, the post said.
Both Smith and Sullivan had previously been convicted of a January 2015 home invasion and armed robbery in Floyd County, the post said. Sullivan had served three stints in prison, while Smith had completed one prison sentence prior to his murder conviction.

The murder was investigated by the GBI, Monroe Police Department and the Walton County DA’s Office.
