A northwest Georgia woman and her 18-year-old son were killed Tuesday when a pickup truck heading in the opposite direction entered their lane and struck them head-on, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 6:20 p.m. on Redmond Circle in west Rome, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Valarie Watts, 51, and her 18-year-old son, Antwan Jamerson, were killed instantly, Floyd County Coroner Gene Proctor said Wednesday. Watts’ husband, 49-year-old Thomas Watts, was taken to Floyd Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

According to investigators, Valarie Watts was driving a 1997 Infiniti I30 south on Redmond Circle in the left lane when a 2015 Ford F-450 driven by Ronnie Barker, 36, of Lindale, crossed the center line.

Jamerson was sitting in the back seat when he was killed, according to police.

No charges have been filed in connection with the fatal wreck, but they are possible pending the outcome of the GSP’s crash investigation, authorities said.
