Report: Floyd County man gets 35-year prison sentence for raping young child

A Floyd County man was sentenced to 35 years in prison Tuesday after being convicted of raping a child who was younger than 6 years old, the Rome News-Tribune reported.

Kenneth Robert Conaway was found guilty of multiple crimes, including several counts of aggravated sexual battery, aggravated child molestation, rape and aggravated sodomy, the newspaper reported. He was acquitted on one count of child molestation.

Between January and February last year, he sexually assault the child multiple times, according to an indictment obtained by the News-Tribune. Conaway was arrested March 15, when he was 35 years old, according to Floyd County jail records.

This won't be Conaway's first trip to a state prison.

He was convicted of credit card fraud more than a decade ago, according to Georgia Department of Corrections records. He committed the crime, which also took place in Floyd County, in 2007, earning about 16 months in prison.

In addition to the his time behind bars, Judge Bryant Durham sentenced Conway to spend the rest of his life on probation. He will also have to register as a sex offender.
