This marriage is off to a rocky start.
An Athens man was arrested Monday morning after beating his bride before their honeymoon had a chance to begin, according to a report in the Athens Banner-Herald.
Police told the newspaper that Erick Lamar Stevens, 25, dragged his new wife, 31, by the hair, bit and punched her in the face, and pulled out her hair weave during an altercation that began after the wedding elsewhere but escalated at an Athens hotel.
A hotel clerk called 911 after the 31-year-old victim came to the lobby in her wedding dress with a bleeding nose, police told the newspaper.
The assault began after a reception at an unnamed location, police said, during which Stevens allegedly got mad because the DJ was making advances on a bridesmaid. He got more belligerent as the night went on, police told the newspaper.
On the drive to the hotel Monday morning, he punched his wife in the face during an argument in which he accused her of cheating on him, police told the newspaper.
At the hotel, the assault continued, police told the Banner-Herald.
While assaulting his wife, Stevens “ultimately pulled out all of her (hair) extensions,” which officers later found on the floor and on a night stand, police said.
