Ex-real estate agent’s new home? Prison

June 5, 2014

A former real estate agent testified that he broke into so many homes and stole jewelry that he lost count, the Cobb County District Attorney said.

Now that man is headed to prison, where he was ordered to serve eight years of his 20-year sentence, DA Vic Reynolds’ office said.

Investigators believe Ray Glen Greene, 49, of Englewood, Fla., used his agent key code to access homes throughout metro Atlanta for the purpose of stealing jewelry and other items, according to the DA. Eight victims were identified in Cobb County and one of the first homeowners to report jewelry missing was a Cobb police captain, Reynolds said.

Greene pleaded guilty Monday to eight counts of burglary and eight counts of theft by taking, Reynolds said. In addition to prison time, Greene also was ordered to pay restitution of just over $29,000, most of which has already been paid.

Greene also must surrender his real estate license and is barred from working in real estate or from entering any house in which the homeowner is not present, Reynolds’ office said.

At his sentencing hearing, Greene testified that he lost count of the total number of homes he burglarized, Reynolds said. Greene said he had not sold a single home in more than a year, and he supported himself completely through the pawning of stolen jewelry.
