A pregnant 19-year-old woman was killed Sunday morning at a DeKalb County hotel. Her male companion was shot in the face.
DeKalb County police responded to the Affordable Inn at 1900 Glenfair Road shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, finding a 27-year-old man “covered in blood” with a bullet “embedded in the left side of his cheek,” according to an incident report. Officers entered Room 125 and found 19-year-old Dyamond Carstarphen lying on the floor.
“I observed a large amount of blood coming from Carstarphen’s head,” the responding officer wrote in the report, “and she did not appear to be breathing.”
Carstarphen was pronounced dead at the scene, and the male victim was transported to Atlanta Medical Center, police said. Family members told Channel 2 Action News that Carstarphen was seven weeks pregnant.
“Small amounts” of marijuana were found inside and outside the room, the incident report said, but a police spokesman said no possible motive has been determined. Officers also found several pieces of paper with the same eight-digit number written on them.
As of Tuesday afternoon, no arrests had been made.
