Police in Lithonia are looking for two would-be home invaders who shot a man through his front door.

Derek Jones had just moved into his Lithonia townhouse in the 2700 block of Parkway Cove in February.

Jones told Channel 2 Action News that he heard a knock at his door at about 3:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

“I’m thinking to myself, who is at my house?” Jones told the station. “Why is someone coming at my door this early in the morning?”

Jones said he hoped the visitors would simply go away, but when they didn’t, he got up from his bed and looked out his window, where he saw two people heading toward the back of his house with a flashlight.

The two strangers then waked back to the front door and began kicking it in, accroding to Channel.

“I tried to just stop them, and that’s when I said ‘who is it?’”

The suspect then shot through the door hitting Jones in the hand, the station reported.

“I actually looked at it and was like oh shoot, it started to swell and you could see the entry and exit wound,” Jones told Channel 2.

Jones told the station that the suspects hopped into a car and sped away.

A security guard on patrol told Channel 2 that the neighborhood was quiet and did not have a lot of traffic. He said was shocked to hear about the shooting.

The victim told Channel 2 he believes one of the suspects may be a female.
