Jon Gunton’s voice filled with emotion as he spoke about his beloved pet dog Freddy.
The Chow-Mastiff mix was recovering in a San Francisco pet hospital Wednesday morning from injuries suffered in a fall from a third-floor window.
Freddy loved to sit in the window and watch the comings and goings in the neighborhood. Gunton could not understand why the 9-year-old suddenly decided to take a 40-foot leap to the ground.
Then the veterinarian called after examining Freddy. He discovered the dog had been shot in the leg with a pellet gun.
“I've been sick since it happened,” he told KTVU. “He's in the hospital right now and that's my guy.”
Gunton called the San Francisco police and reported the shooting.
“I called the cops,” he told KTVU. ”What else do you do? Somebody shot him.”
San Francisco police are calling it an unusual incident and are asking anyone who may have information about the shooting to come forward.
But Gunton told KTVU it’s hard temper his anger.
“Somebody hurt my dog on purpose,” he said, “What the hell is that? Who does that? “
The veterinarian said Freddy is expected to recover from his injuries.
