Authorities are searching for whoever struck a bicyclist with a car in East Point on Christmas Eve and kept driving.
The victim, 47-year-old Michael Cook, was recently released from Grady Memorial Hospital and spoke to Channel 2 Action News on Friday about the incident, which took place on Main Street. He said the incident knocked him unconscious, and he didn’t wake up until the next day.
“I got hit so hard (and) was in such a daze with such extensive injuries that I didn’t even realize it was Christmas,” Cook said.

He woke up in the hospital with serious injuries to his neck, legs and shoulders, Channel 2 reported. The last thing he remembers was lying on the ground with police and paramedics looking over him.
“I couldn’t hear them, but I saw them mouthing, “It was a hit-and-run,” and, “He’s got a bone sticking out of his leg,” Cook said. “That’s when I realized, I’m speaking, not dreaming and was actually hit by a car.”
Before the incident, Cook said he had bought a friend a plate of food and was riding his bicycle to deliver it, the news station reported. He said he does not remember the impact or anything about the car that hit him.
Cook's friends have created a Facebook fundraiser page to help him with his medical costs since he does not have health insurance, Channel 2 reported. As of Friday night, it had raised more than $600.
Atlanta police told AJC.com that this incident took place inside East Point’s city limits. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact East Point police at 404-559-6226.
