A man posed as a policeman in an extortion scheme against a Gwinnett restaurant, authorities say.
On April 6, Snellville police say they received a report from the manager of the Rice Box restaurant on Scenic Highway, according to the incident report. The manager said a man contacted him and claimed to be a detective from the Snellville Police Department.
The manager said the man requested that he give the man $500 to fund an investigation into one of the restaurant’s employees, the police report said.
A meeting was set up between the manager and the man at the library on Lenora Church Road, with police looking on. When the subject arrived and began walking toward the manager’s vehicle, police moved in and made the arrest without incident.
The man, Hamza F. Ahmed, is charged with impersonating a police officer and theft by extortion.
