A Clayton County grandmother was arrested Thursday after her 3-year-old granddaughter was found wandering around an apartment complex, authorities said.

The girl, whose name is London, was discovered in the Laurel Pointe apartments on Morrow Road near Old Dixie Highway.

Officers went door to door in search of the girl’s parents for hours but could not find them, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office said in an alert requesting the public’s help.

Authorities were able to identify the girl’s parents 20 minutes after posting the alert, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

“After receiving the text alert from the sheriff’s office, the community has helped us find London’s parents!” authorities said.

Police said the child’s grandmother, Linda Faye Hart, was supposed to be watching London.

When deputies came to the family's home, however, Hart was asleep upstairs, police said. The 51-year-old was charged with one count of contributing to the delinquency, unruliness or deprivation of a minor, Clayton County jail records show.

She was still in jail as of Thursday evening.
