The man who was shot by officers after being stopped Tuesday on I-20 in DeKalb County said he “panicked,” Conyers police said.

Diondre David Evans had three gunshot wounds from the incident that involved Conyers police and the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office, according to the incident report from Conyers police. Officers executed a traffic stop at the Turner Hill Road exit of I-20 after Evans fled the custody of Rockdale deputies.

Evans was Tasered by a Rockdale deputy when he attempted to elude arrest, according to a Georgia Bureau of Investigation media release. He was shot by a Conyers officer when he attempted to move his vehicle.

Evans was being held by Rockdale deputies on warrants from a domestic violence incident. A lookout issued by Rockdale said that Evans was armed and still was wearing one handcuff, the Conyers report said.

The GBI has begun an investigation into this incident, which is standard for officer-involved shootings.

Evans’ mother arrived at the scene after he was captured, the Conyers report said. She had tracked his cell phone to the location. An officer drove her to the hospital to check on her son.
