A fire that broke out in a mobile classroom outside the Gainesville High School Ninth Grade Academy last week was set intentionally, fire officials said.

Firefighters were called to the school about 2 a.m. last Thursday and quickly extinguished the blaze, authorities said.

“It has been determined that the cause of the fire was the result of arson,” said Gainesville Fire Marshal Chad Payne. “All other causes of the fire have been ruled out.”

Investigators said they are searching for two people of interest who were spotted at the school before and after the fire was set, Payne said.

Evidence collected at the scene was sent to the GBI crime lab for testing.

A reward of up to $10,000 has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible, the fire department said. Anyone with information about the fire at the high school is asked to contact Georgia Arson Control at 1-800-282-5804.
