A fight may have led to a parent pepper-spraying students at Carver High School on Wednesday, according to Channel 2 Action News.

One student was taken to a hospital after Shawanda Favors allegedly discharged pepper spray into a crowd of students, an Atlanta Public Schools spokeswoman said.

Favors was charged with disorderly conduct, Kimberly Willis Green said. The incident happened as students were entering the building. Four other students required treatment but were not taken to the hospital, she said.

According to Channel 2, Favors’ son was getting beat up by students at the school. That’s when Favors allegedly pulled out a can of pepper spray to protect her son against his attackers.

“The parent was apprehended by the Atlanta Public Schools Police Department and charged for her inappropriate conduct,” Green said.

Favors is in the Fulton County jail on a $1,403 bond.

The school system’s police department is investigating.
