A registered nurse was indicted Tuesday for allegedly claiming to treat a dead Medicaid patient, authorities said.

Jeannette Mary Hokanson was charged with 19 felony counts, including identity fraud, first-degree forgery and false statements and writings, according to Georgia Attorney General officials.

Hokanson began working for a home health care company in October 2007, providing nursing services to patients, authorities said.

On Sept. 18, 2012, a patient under her care died in Atlanta.

But prosecutors said Hokanson continued to submit nursing visit documentation to the company as if the patient were still alive.

In so doing, prosecutors said Hokanson forged the deceased patient’s signature, then signed her own name to paperwork claiming she’d made the visit.

If prosecuted, Hokanson faces as many as 30 years in prison and up to $200,000 in fines, according to Attorney General officials.
