A Gwinnett County woman was arrested on a DUI charge Sunday afternoon while driving her three young children home.

Police said Carolina Munguia, 24, was driving on Singleton Road in Norcross when she was pulled over for weaving in and out of her lane and accelerating erratically. Instead of pulling over to the side of the road, Munguia stopped right in the middle lane, according to a police report.

Upon making contact with Munguia, the responding officer smelled “a strong odor of alcohol coming from her breath,” according to the report. The officer also noticed there were three children in the back of the car — a 4-month-old, a 1-year-old and a 6-year-old — without fastened seat belts or proper safety restraints.

When asked if she had been drinking, Munguia said she had two beers with a coworker about 40 minutes before getting pulled over, after which she decided to pick up her children. After consenting to a breathalyzer test, she blew a .126 and a .136 — well above the legal alcohol limit of .08.

Munguia was arrested on 11 charges, including one count of DUI, three counts of DUI/child endangerment and five different charges of improper safety restraint and seat belt use. She was released from the Gwinnett County Detention Center on Sunday after posting a $8,372 bond.

This wasn’t Munguia’s first time getting arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated. She also was charged with DUI and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute in December 2012, after which she spent two months in jail.
