A man was shot and killed Friday afternoon while trying to prevent another man from stealing his car, according to Clayton County police.
The shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. at the Avalon Mobile Home Park near Jonesboro, Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said. Officers arrived to find the injured man in the road, Marbury said. The man, whose name was not immediately released, later died at Grady Memorial Hospital.
According to witnesses, the victim attempted to stop a man from stealing his 2003 Honda Civic. The men exchanged gunfire and the car owner collapsed after being shot, police confirmed. The alleged shooter left the scene in the car.
Late Friday night, police located the gray, four-door Civic in DeKalb County, Marbury said. The suspect, who was still on the run, should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.
