A Gwinnett County man was shot twice early Friday during an armed robbery in the driveway of his home.

The shooting happened in the 1000 block of Traymore Drive, in a neighborhood off Steve Reynolds Boulevard that has been plagued by a rash of recent robberies.

Bobby Swanger, 24, was returning home from his job with a security company at about 4:15 a.m. Friday when he was shot.

Swanger’s brother, 18-year-old Cody Swanger, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that his older brother “got out of the car and the man confronted him with a gun and said, ‘give me your wallet.’”

“My brother reached for his wallet and pulled it out and started to give it to him and the man shot him in the shoulder,” Cody Swanger said. “My brother started to run, and he shot him in the leg.”

Cody Swanger said he was awakened by the two gunshots.

“I was going to tell my dad to call the police because it was incredibly close to the house, and about the time I lean up to go get my dad, my brother runs in the door and he’s just screaming, ‘Call 911, call 911,’” Cody Swanger said. “I go downstairs with my phone and he says, ‘I’ve been shot.’”

“I can’t even describe in words how scared I was when he came in like that,” Cody Swanger said. “I was terrified.”

Bobby Swanger was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment of the gunshot wounds.

“He will be OK,” Cody Swanger said, adding that the gunman got away with his brother’s wallet, which contained $160 in cash and credit cards.

“The detective told us this is the 15th robbery in this area in the past two weeks,” Cody Swanger said.

Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter said investigators are “looking into the possibility that this may be connected to several other armed robberies in recent weeks.”

Ritter said the suspect in Friday’s shooting was described as a light-skinned black man in his early 20s, about 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighing approximately 210 pounds. He had light facial hair and was wearing a large, dark-colored hat, a white T-shirt and dark shorts.
