A Monroe man was struck by a pickup truck and killed early Friday after allegedly running from an Athens Waffle House without paying for his meal.

The Athens Banner-Herald reported that the 21-year-old man had been eating with three other people at the Waffle House on Atlanta Highway in west Athens around 5 a.m. Friday.

The group had apparently parked across the road from the Waffle House, and the other three people left the restaurant at different times.

The last person fled the restaurant without paying, and ran into the path of a westbound 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup. He was hit by the truck and died at the scene, according to a press release from Athens-Clarke County Police.

Clarke County Coroner Sonny Wilson identified the dead man as Justin Antonio Simon, 21, of Monroe.

The Nicholson man driving the pickup has not been charged.
