A man was shot and killed Tuesday while taking his 4-year-old son to get a haircut, according to the Boston Police Department.
The victim, identified as Marcus Hall, 31, was killed outside a Mattapan barbershop shortly after he arrived at the business. He was approached by another person and the pair left the barbershop. The unidentified person fired several shots at Hall.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hall's son was getting a haircut inside Hair It Is barbershop at the time of the shooting.
"Someone was rocking him and crying," said Angela Johnson, owner of Hair It Is. "When I (saw) that, my heart just (fell)."
The child's mother, Shiaka McIntosh, said their son was Hall's only child.
"It's unfortunate that he had to die in front of my son," McIntosh said. "He was a good father, not a gang member -- he was definitely against black-on-black violence."
Police declared the shooting an active homicide investigation and searched the neighborhood for a suspect. Authorities believe Hall and the shooter knew each other and that the attack was not random.
