A man is in critical condition after he was shot in the head in northwest Atlanta early Thursday morning, according to police.

Atlanta police were called to the shooting at an apartment complex in the 1100 block of Joseph E. Boone Boulevard about 12:15 a.m. Thursday. Officers found the victim shot in the head and in the leg, police spokesman Officer Jarius Daugherty said.

He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

“Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surround the shooting,” Daugherty said.

According to Channel 2 Action News, the shooting resulted from a canceled drug deal. Investigators on scene told the news station the man and a woman went to the apartment complex to buy drugs but changed their minds when they got there.

Someone came running from around a corner and fired multiple shots, hitting the man, Channel 2 reported. The shooter then ran away.

An investigation is ongoing, Daugherty said.
