A 26-year-old man is facing several charges after he fled a traffic stop in DeKalb County, police said Friday.
Marques Gaines was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft by receiving a stolen firearm and felony obstruction, police spokesman DeKalb police Maj. Stephen Fore said Friday.
The traffic stop was on Ember Drive, Fore said.
The man ran away, and an officer ran after him. The man dropped a handgun, turned, and was picking it up as the officer approached, Fore said. The officer fired, but police do not believe the suspect was hit.
Police recovered the gun, which they said was stolen.
