An Alabama man is facing charges in connection with a hit-and-run in Douglasville early Sunday that left a motorcyclist dead and the biker’s wife seriously injured.
According to Channel 2 Action News, Jason Wooten, 29, of Munford, Ala., is in the Douglas County jail on charges of hit-and-run, serious injury by vehicle, DUI, homicide by vehicle in the first degree and reckless driving.
Steven Rose, 29, of Powder Springs, died after an Infiniti G37 struck the rear of his Yamaha motorcycle on I-20 westbound near the Fairburn Road exit, Douglasville police said in a post on the department's Facebook page.
Rose was riding with his wife when the Infiniti hit their motorcycle without stopping about 3:20 a.m. Sunday, police said. Rose was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Douglas County coroner's office.
Rose and his wife, who was not immediately identified, were thrown off the bike. She was taken to Atlanta Medical Center, where authorities said she was in stable condition.
The Infiniti was located at I-20 westbound before Highway 5 after the driver, later identified as Wooten, left the car in an emergency lane, police said. Wooten was taken into custody near a store at Arbor Place Mall.
The accident is still under investigation but “speed and driver impairment do appear to be factors in the accident,” police said in the Facebook post.
