A man is facing several charges after he hit a deputy after a shoplifting incident in Hall County, police said.

The incident Friday involved Ryan Travanti Stephens, 34, deputies said. The alleged shoplifting happened at J&J Foods on Jesse Jewell Parkway.

After deputies arrived, Stephens ran, but when they caught up to him, Stephens allegedly fought and hit a deputy several times.

Stephens is charged with felony obstruction, felony battery and misdemeanor shoplifting. He’s scheduled for a court appearance Dec. 4.
