A Sandy Springs man has been charged with two counts of battery in connection with an attack on two sisters at Chastain Park, Atlanta police said.

Silvestre Diaz-Duque was arrested Thursday after one sister said she was punched about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of Weiuca Road, according to a police report.

The siblings were walking back to their car after a run in the park, when a man attacked them.

Without saying a word, Diaz-Duque punched one woman in the face, according to the police report.

One of the sisters bit Diaz-Duque’s hand as he tried to cover her mouth, and he punched her, police said. The other sister ran over to help, and a struggle ensued, police said.

Diaz-Duque had a slightly different story. He told police the sisters offered him a ride. As they walked to the car, he said he put his arm around one of them. He punched her when she got upset with him, police said.

Members of the Tuxedo Neighborhood Patrol and Tuxedo Road Patrol saw a male matching Diaz-Duque’s description walking down Tuxedo Road more than two miles away from the general direction of the park. He was detained and police brought one of the sisters to identify Diaz-Duque, which she did, police said.

Diaz-Duque was in the Fulton County Jail on Thursday.
