A 14-year-old hit by a car in southwest Atlanta on Tuesday did not have the right of way, Atlanta police said.
The driver, who remained on the scene, was heading south on Metropolitan Parkway when the teenager allegedly darted into her traffic lane, the driver told police.
The accident happened in the 600 block of University Avenue just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
The light was green and turning yellow, so the “pedestrian signal would indicate that pedestrian traffic was not to travel on the marked crosswalk,” Atlanta police Officer Donald Hannah said.
Witnesses also told police that the pedestrian did not have the right of way to cross, Hannah said.
The teen was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston with arm and leg injuries, Atlanta police Officer Lisa Bender said.
The girl was the second person reportedly hit Tuesday in the Atlanta area.
Earlier, a woman was hit about 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Piedmont Road and Morosgo Drive, police said. She died at Grady Memorial Hospital from her injuries.
