A human skull a hunter found Tuesday afternoon in Gwinnett County has been there about two or three years, according to Channel 2 Action News.
The medical examiner told the television station the remains, which were found in a wooded area near Bailey Road and Union Grove Circle in unincorporated Auburn, likely belonged to a man in his early 60s.
“Officers along with the medical examiner confirmed that the remains were human,” Gwinnett police Cpl. Michele Pihera said. “In close proximity, other bones were found, but many bones remain missing.”
Officials began searching for the missing bones Tuesday but suspended the search overnight.
About 9:30 a.m., police recruits returned to the scene to find and flag any additional bones, property or evidence.
Just after noon, Channel 2 reported officials found parts of the man’s abdomen and pelvis, as well as other large bones.
“At this time, we don’t know if the situation is criminal or not,” Pihera said. “The identity of the remains are unknown.”
