A Hall County math teacher has resigned over allegations that he had “inappropriate communications” with an 18-year-old student.
Tyler Stover, 25, who had taught at Chestatee High School since August 2009, resigned on Monday, according to Hall County School officials.
School officials were alerted to the allegations of inappropriate communications with the student Sunday evening.
They would not give additional details about what constituted inappropriate communications between Stover and the student, saying it involved an ongoing investigation. School officials said they turned the matter over to local law enforcement and the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
No charges have been filed, Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks, spokesman for the Hall County Sheriff's Office, told the Gainesville Times.
“A sheriff’s investigator has been consulted on the case, and at this time we’re still in the process of determining if the relationship between the teacher and the student, who is 18 and legally considered an adult, rose to the level of criminal activity,” Wilbanks said.
Wilbanks told the newspaper that investigators are aware of suggestive text messages between Stover and the student.
