Indictments accuse a Gainesville woman of denying a young girl food — and a man of forcing her to eat her own feces.

Stacy Carol Hicks and William Joe Sewell Jr. were indicted last month by a Hall County grand jury - Hicks on one count of first-degree child cruelty and Sewell on three. The indictment accuses Hicks of depriving the child, whose age was not released, “of necessary sustenance to the extent that the child’s health and well-being was jeopardized.”

Sewell is accused of “striking and kicking” the child and “biting [her] fingers” between May 1 and Aug. 31, 2013. In January 2014, he caused the girl “cruel and excessive physical and mental pain by requiring her to eat her own feces,” the indictment alleges.

Sewell and Hicks’ relationship to the child was unclear, though the girl bears Hicks’ surname.
