A Lawrenceville man was hit by a car and killed Monday evening as he tried to cross Duluth Highway, police said.

Authorities said Troy Cox, 58, was killed about 9:30 p.m. as he crossed the street near its intersection with Riverside Parkway. Investigators do not believe Cox had the right-of-way when he was struck by a blue Toyota Camry driven by 26-year-old Aleksandr Gutsu, also of Lawrencville.

Police said Gutsu was heading west on Duluth Highway and had a green light when he struck Cox. Speed is not believed to have been a factor and Gutsu was not injured, according to the Gwinnett police incident report.

Investigators believe Cox may have been under the influence of alcohol when he was killed.
