A Gwinnett County couple was indicted Wednesday for Medicaid fraud and conspiracy to defraud the state of Georgia.
Oluyemisi and Olufemi Afuape were both accused of pilfering more than $1 million in Georgia Medicaid for services that weren’t provided to children, authorities said.
Oluyemisi Afuape is a licensed physical therapist, and she and her husband owned and operated Zion Rehab and a daycare business called “Give Mom a Break.”
After recruiting and enrolling children at their business and offering free daycare, the two allegedly submitted claims to state Medicaid for therapy services that weren’t actually provided.
The couple, who live near Snellville, was paid $1.4 million for physical, occupational and speech therapy, State Attorney General officials claimed.
They could spend as many as 15 years in jail if convicted, authorities said.
