Gwinnett County police believe a pedestrian killed Tuesday night on a Norcross-area street was crossing against a “don’t walk” sign.

The authorities, however, were still pursuing the driver who hit the woman because he or she fled the scene.

“Both share some responsibility in the outcome of this incident,” Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera said in an email. “But the driver of the vehicle has an obligation to stay and render aid no matter the fault.”

According to investigators, 28-year-old Amber Harding was walking across South Norcross Tucker Road near Graves Road around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday despite an illuminated sign telling her to stay put. At the same time, a gold, four-door Honda Civic VTEC traveling north on South Norcross Tucker Road “accelerated to pass through a yellow light.”

The car — described as being “lowered to the ground” with “gold or yellow headlights,” chrome rims and tinted windows — hit Harding and killed her, then drove off.

Anyone with information about the vehicle or its driver is asked to contact the Gwinnett County police accident investigation unit at 678-442-5628. Tipsters can also remain anonymous and be eligible for rewards of up to $2,000 by contacting Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS or crimestoppersatlanta.org.
