The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Lavonia police are investigating the slaying of a business owner found dead inside his northeast Georgia residence
After Samuel Vernon Harbin failed to report to the office Monday, an employee found Harbin’s body at his Gilmer Street residence in Lavonia, Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman Scott Dutton said Tuesday. Lavonia is about 90 miles from Atlanta.
Harbin, 82, was owner of the Point South Mobile Home Park on Highway 17, the Athens Banner-Herald reported.
GBI investigators have been gathering evidence at Harbin’s residence, Dutton said. The body was taken to the GBI crime lab in DeKalb County for an autopsy.
Investigators have begun interviewing Harbin’s neighbors, family and associates to establish a timeline surrounding Harbin’s activities over the past several days, Dutton said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Lavonia police at 706-356-4848 or the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office at 706-384-2525 or 706-384-7118.
