The skeleton of a man found with some articles of clothing now has a face to help investigators determine who died in Cherokee County in 2013.

Kelly Lawson, a forensic artist with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, created a three-dimensional model. It left her wondering what happened to the man.

“Anytime you’re working on something for about a hundred hours of your time, you’re thinking about that person, what could they have been doing,” Lawson told Channel 2 Action News.

The facial reconstruction Lawson completed on the skull on an African-American man belongs to someone between 40 and 60 years old. Lawson said the reconstruction should be viewed as an approximation and anyone who thinks the man looks familiar should call police.

The remains led investigators to believe the man was approximately 5-foot-7 to 6-foot-1, with a light brown complexion. His body was found in October 2013.

“This individual likely died sometime between February and July of 2013 and could possibly have been homeless,” GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the man. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is the investigating agency and can be contacted at 770-928-0239.
