A man who previously worked for the city of Jackson said he was interviewed as a suspect in an officer-involved shooting that turned out to be made up, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Rodreikus Scott was interviewed before the Georgia Bureau of Investigation determined that the now-former Jackson officer lied about having been shot by a black man.
Sherry Hall concocted a tale about a man roughly 6 feet tall and 240 pounds who shot her Sept. 13, the GBI said. She was arrested Monday and booked into the Butts County Detention Center, where bond was denied during a first appearance Tuesday.
Hall’s description of the shooter with long, pulled-back black hair, yellowish jaundice-looking eyes and wearing a florescent-green T-shirt and black jogging pants led investigators to Scott.
A court document obtained by Channel 2 says, “Scott fits the description of the suspect described by Officer Hall. The location of the incident is directly behind Scott’s residence within 50 yards.”
Scott wore a florescent-green shirt when he worked for the city, but he told investigators he had given the shirt back before the alleged shooting.
GBI Agent Joe Wooten said Scott was cooperative when interviewed, which was before the determination was made that Hall lied.
Scott told Channel 2 he feels lucky to be free and said he’s so scared by the allegations that he has a difficult time sleeping at night.
“I can’t get it out of my mind because that’s something serious and I know I wasn’t a part of it,” Scott said.
