Fulton County police were involved in a vehicle pursuit and shooting Wednesday on Old National Highway, officials said.

No officers were injured, and the driver they were pursuing, identified as Lonnie Deron King, 38, was not shot but was taken to a hospital for treatment, Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Nelly Miles said.

About 11 a.m., officers responded to a suspicious vehicle that was reported in the parking lot of a business, Miles said.

Officers asked the driver of a white SUV to leave the vehicle, but instead the person drove away, Miles said. The SUV then struck several cars, including a police car.

Several officers then fired, and King kept going until he was captured, Miles said. The SUV appeared to have several bullet holes on the driver's side.

King was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment of lacerations from broken glass.

Fulton police charged King with aggravated assault, attempting to elude police, interference with government property and theft by receiving stolen property.

The GBI is investigating the incident, which is standard in cases involving police shootings. The results will be turned over to the Fulton County district attorney's office.
