Shannon Brown was arrested in Tyrone on Saturday on a charge of aggravated assault.

Former Los Angeles Lakers player Shannon Brown was arrested in metro Atlanta last week after he was accused of firing a rifle at two people who wanted to tour his home.

Brown’s Fayette County home is listed for sale, according to Tyrone police. The former guard and two-time NBA champion told police he thought the couple were trying to break in, police spokesman Lt. Philip Nelson confirmed to AJC.com.

The couple said they were looking for homes in the River Oaks subdivision off Ga. 74 on Saturday evening and stopped outside Brown’s house after seeing the sign in the yard.

According to Nelson, the couple said the gate and front door were open, and they thought someone inside told them to “come in.”

Brown, 34, allegedly came outside holding a rifle and fired multiple rounds as the couple hurried to leave, they told police. No one was reported injured during the incident, Nelson confirmed.

The couple did not contact police about the alleged shooting until about 9:45 p.m., nearly four hours later, he said. Investigators who responded to the home found one empty shell casing at the scene.

Brown was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault and has since bonded out of the Fayette County Jail.

Brown won his NBA championships in two of his three seasons with the Lakers. He also played for several other NBA teams, including two seasons with the Phoenix Suns, over his nearly 10-year professional career. Brown currently plays in Ice Cube’s Big3, a 3-on-3 league that travels the country, with stops in different cities, over a 12-week season that culminates in a championship.

He has lived in Fayette County for several years. In 2019, Brown finalized his divorce from R&B singer Monica in a Fayetteville court after eight years of marriage. The two share a daughter.
