A portion of 5th Street remained closed for the sixth day Monday by a sinkhole that has put Atlantans at a standstill between Cypress and West Peachtree streets.

The street has been closed since Wednesday.

But there’s some good news: The Department of Watershed Management completed work on a water line at the closure, spokeswoman Cameo Garrett told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

But public works spokeswoman Christina Cruz-Benton said officials are still trying to determine the cause of the sinkhole.

“The Department of Watershed Management conducted dye tests on their infrastructure and found no leaks,” she said.

In the meantime, 5th Street at Cypress Street will remain closed and the sidewalk on both sides will also be closed to pedestrians, Cruz-Benton said.

5th Street at West Peachtree Street is open only to those who need to access the Biltmore and AT&T parking decks.

The closure is the latest in a slew of traffic issues that have plagued Atlantans.

In the past week, a tractor-trailer filled with chemicals overturned on the Downtown Connector and a portion of I-20 in DeKalb County buckled.

The traffic nightmares have only added to the I-85 bridge collapse March 30, leaving Atlantans virtually without an interstate. The bridge is expected to be repaired by June 15.
