Cobb County police charged a 21-year-old driver with vehicular homicide in connection with a wreck that killed a high school athlete, officials said Thursday.

Genesis Leilani Lugo, who is also charged with failure to yield in the fatal crash, turned herself in to authorities Wednesday, police spokesman Sgt. Wayne Delk said.

The wreck happened about 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 22, AJC.com previously reported. According to investigators, Lugo’s Nissan Altima was making a left turn from Alabama Road onto Old Mountain Park Road when it was hit by a black Suzuki motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, identified as 18-year-old Cameron S. Clason, was thrown from his bike and taken to Wellstar North Fulton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Lugo did not need medical attention at the scene, police said.

Clason was a senior at River Ridge High School in Woodstock and a member of the varsity wrestling team.

“His passing has broken the hearts of his classmates, who shared what a good friend he was to them and how much he loved to laugh and make them laugh,” Cherokee County School District spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby said in a statement.

A GoFundMe page was created to support Clason's family following his death.

Lugo was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, Delk said.
