A former Douglas County commissioner was indicted Friday for first-degree forgery, a felony, after allegedly lying about his income in hopes of persuading a judge to lower child-support payments.

Freddie Ashmon Jr. was charged in July with convincing a county employee to alter his pay stub to make it appear as if he was earning $10,000 less than his actual salary, according to the Douglas Sheriff’s Department. Ashmon was embroiled in a child custody case involving his 16-year-old daughter.

Three weeks after his arrest, Ashmon lost a primary bid to reclaim a seat on the county commission, where he served from 2006 to 2010.

According to Channel 2 Action News, the former commissioner was arrested twice previously, in 2004 and 2007, on battery charges.
