Authorities identified a man whose body was recovered from Amicalola Creek on May 19.

A group of kayakers found the body north of the creek’s crossing with Steele Bridge Road, Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson told AJC.com. The sheriff’s office and Department of Natural Resources recovered the body.

The GBI performed the man’s autopsy, identifying him as Benny Joe Carlisle, 27, of Dawsonville. Johnson said the investigation remains active but no foul play is suspected.

“Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the family and friends,” the sheriff said in an email.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 706-344-3535.
