Police are investigating separate drive-by shootings early Friday morning that left one DeKalb County man dead.

Just before 1 a.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 3700 block of Larkspur Terrace, just west of I-285, DeKalb County police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said.

The 18-year-old who was fatally shot lived a few blocks from the scene, Channel 2 Action News reports.

A witness, who was with the man, told police a white SUV drove by as they walked along the street. The vehicle slowed down and someone in the back seat fired three shots, hitting the victim in the chest, the witness said.

The witness was able to run, but was hit and injured by gunfire, police said.

The SUV was a Yukon or Tahoe, but there are no clear descriptions of the individuals inside, police said.

Around 1:15 a.m., police responded to a shots-fired call in the 2700 block of Elkhorn Drive, roughly six miles away from the first shooting.

There, another man was found shot. He was taken to an area hospital in stable condition, authorities said.

Police said that man and a woman were standing outside when they saw a suspicious vehicle approach.

As in the first shooting, someone from inside the vehicle fired in the couple’s direction, and the man was hit, police said.

“At this point no determination has been made for the motive of these two shootings nor has it been determined if these two are connected,” Parish said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call DeKalb County Police.
