Atlanta police were investigating Sunday a fatal crash on I-285.
The single-vehicle crash happened around 7:40 a.m. in the westbound lanes near Jonesboro Road, Atlanta police Officer Donald Hannah said in an emailed statement.
“A witness advised the vehicle passed him at a high rate of speed before it went onto the shoulder and into the grass,” Hannah said, “where it slid before rolling and striking a pole and coming to a rest.”
The vehicle, a 2009 Cadillac Escalade ESV, was “taken to the medical examiner’s office to remove the victim due to extensive damage.” The driver’s identity was not immediately available.
Multiple westbound lanes were closed following the crash but have since reopened.
